Start with the period and the unit
Choose an indicator and inspect its observation date before comparing values. The dashboard combines series with different publication schedules, so the most recent observation will not have the same date for every measure. An annual result, a monthly reading and a daily official rate should never appear to describe one identical moment.
Charts have accompanying tables. Use those tables to inspect individual values, source references and notes on revisions or breaks. A missing field means that a reliable value is unavailable; it does not mean zero. Historical datasets stop at their stated endpoints, while official daily feeds display their own effective dates.
What each indicator measures
Real GDP growth
Real gross domestic product growth measures the annual change in output after adjusting for price changes. It is not nominal growth in ruble revenues and does not by itself measure household welfare. Rosstat revises national accounts as fuller information and updated methods become available.
Consumer-price inflation
The annual series measures December prices against the preceding December. The monthly series measures each month's prices against the same month a year earlier. Neither should be confused with month-over-month changes or seasonally adjusted annualized inflation, which answer different questions.
Bank of Russia key rate
The key rate is the central bank's principal monetary-policy rate, expressed as a percentage per year. The live observation identifies the rate and effective date; the historical table records actual changes, separating decision dates from implementation. It is not the rate every borrower or depositor receives.
Ruble exchange rate
The currency indicator uses official Bank of Russia reference rates, expressed in rubles per unit after normalizing the quotation's nominal quantity. Historical annual averages and year-end readings are labeled separately. Official rates are indicative and can differ from bank, card and exchange-office rates.
Unemployment
The annual unemployment series uses the labor-force-survey measure under International Labour Organization criteria, rather than the number registered at employment offices. It expresses unemployment as a share of the labor force. Changes in age coverage, population weights and territory affect long comparisons.
Federal budget balance
The federal-budget balance is the surplus or deficit as a percentage of GDP. Positive values mean a surplus and negative values a deficit. The measure is not the consolidated or general-government balance, and the ratio can change when either fiscal execution or its GDP denominator is revised.
Brent crude price
The energy series is the annual average Europe Brent spot price published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in dollars per barrel. It is not the price Russia receives for Urals crude, an oil-futures settlement or a forecast. Benchmark prices require separate treatment from freight, discounts and taxes.
Sources and release schedules
Rosstat provides the core output, prices and employment evidence. The Bank of Russia supplies monetary-policy and official exchange-rate data and republishes selected Rosstat series. Federal-budget data come from Ministry of Finance records; Brent observations come from the EIA. Source notes identify any institutional republication or historical-vintage limitation.
Daily official data are fetched by Russia Economy's server, not directly by your browser from the Bank of Russia. Annual and monthly historical files are maintained separately. A failed feed must be labeled as delayed or unavailable, not disguised as a fresh reading.
Read the indicators together
No single series is a verdict on the whole economy. Compare output with inflation, employment and financing conditions, then examine which sectors or policies explain the pattern. Restricted publication of some Russian statistics since 2022 limits the detail available for independent checks.
Read how Russia's economy works for the overall framework, the key-rate guide for monetary transmission and the federal-budget guide for fiscal definitions. The dashboard supports explanation, not investment or trading recommendations.
